Still running vSphere 5.5? Get with it Man!

imageOctober is here – The countdown clock has started.  You now officially have 11 months to get off vSphere 5.5 and upgrade to something supported.   VMware is End of Life’ing both ESXi 5.5 and vCenter 5.5 Server on September 19th 2018.  That date will be here before you know it!  I know a lot of clients that are still running their vCenter on Windows as well.  Now is the time to start the migration to the Virtual Appliance version of vCenter.   Maybe you’ve heard that vSphere 6.5 dropped support for the Fat Client and that’s the straw that made you determined to ride 5.5 out and have the best summer ever in 2018.  Don’t do it.  Don’t wait til the very end of support.  At the very minimum, upgrade and migrate to vSphere 6.0.  You can keep your fat client and still leverage the migration tools available to ditch vCenter Windows edition.  You will still have to run your Update Manager on a Windows server but you can tackle that in 2020 when you reluctantly move to 6.5.
