Port Forwarding on the ARRIS TG1682 Modem Router

Artboard 1

After finding out the Sagemcom F@st 5260 didn’t support Local NAT Loopback, I was forced to change my Modem/Router combination again.  For those that don’t know, the Local NAT loopback allows me to hit my router from the inside and allows it to move the traffic over to another port.  In my case, I am running home assistant on port 8123 natively but want to hit it on the SSL port.  So I use NAT loopback to move that traffic over both externally when going through the Router and then using Loopback internally as well.  This allows everything to just work.

Since the Sagemcom didn’t support the NAT Loopback, I went back to Charter Spectrum and asked for the ARRIS TG1682 all in one unit.  This unit not only has less power requirements (it’s one unit instead of two) but also fully supports the NAT loopback feature.   I have the my entire Charter Spectrum setup plugged into a nice $25 UPS (https://amzn.to/2SJe41m).  The UPS is made specifically for modem gear to keep your modems from rebooting during small power brownouts or surges.

I made a video below on how to set up the Port forwarding on the new ARRIS TG1682 Modem/Router to make it easy for anyone else to get up and running fast.  In the second half of the video, I also show how I am configuring my Home Assistant YAML to support the SSL port forwarding.

Enjoy!
