How to opt out of Citrix Director’s use of Google Analytics.

So nice to see big companies working together to share our data

Sam Jacobs sent this little tip over to me recently.

It seems that not only does Citrix Director monitor user sessions, but also keeps some tabs on the administrative use of Director!

https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/xenapp-and-xendesktop/7-15-ltsr/director.html

Usage data collection by Google Analytics The Director Service uses Google Analytics to collect usage data anonymously after Director is installed. Statistics and information regarding the usage of the Trends page and its tabs are collected. Data collection is enabled by default when you install Director. To opt out of the Google Analytics data collection, edit the registry key, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Citrix\Meta\Install on the machine where Director is installed, as described in the Install and upgrade analytics section in Citrix Insight Services.

Note: The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Citrix\Meta\Install registry key controls the collection of usage data by Citrix Insight Services as well as Google Analytics. Any change to the key value affects collection by both the services.

So according to the documentation, it is really just capturing page usage presumably to help gauge usage and direct development but normally, these things are opt in.

Thanks to Sam and his avid reading of documentation, we can easily opt out of this data collection if we choose to. 🙂

Be sure to follow Sam Jacobs on twitter at @WIGuru and say Thanks!
